Carson-Newman's Zhao Named South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Men's Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman guard John Zhao has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played during week eleven of the 2023-24 season, the Conference announced today.

Zhao, a junior from Sevierville, Tenn., led the Eagles to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Emory & Henry (106-99) and Coker (120-81). He scored 38 points against Emory & Henry, shooting 88.2 percent (15-for-17) from the field, including setting a new program record of three-point shooting percentage in a game, going 8-for-9 (88.9) from long range. Zhao then dropped 26 points against Coker, shooting 78.6 percent (11-for-14). For the week he averaged 32 points with 5.5 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, while shooting 83.9 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from three-point range.
