Browder Earns Second Consecutive SAC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Jack Browder was voted as the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced today. This is the second year in a row Browder has earned the distinction.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Browder, an academic senior and athletic junior from Kingsport, Tenn., was just named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District for the third time in his career. He owns a 4.0 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Business Administration. He has been a three-time member of the Dean's List and earned the Carson-Newman Platinum Eagle Scholar each of the past three years. Most recently, Browder earned the SAC Elite 23 Award Winner in March which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA in the conference that competes at the championship site. He also is a three-time Hope Scholar and three-time Presidential Scholar at Carson-Newman. Browder earned one of the highest distinctions given out by the conference last year, being named the SAC President's Award winner. Finally, he was named the D2CCA Regional Scholar-Athlete of the Year which encompasses all sports in the region.
On the court, Browder was named to the NABC All-Region team following the season and was a four-time SAC Player of the Week this year, becoming the only player in Carson-Newman history to win the honor four times in a year. He has twice been named an All-Conference performer and made the All-Tournament team as a sophomore. During that season, he was the only player in the league in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding and he was second in the league in double-doubles. He was named the NABC/D2SIDA National Player of the Week this year and has 1,356 career points.
Off the court, Browder is committed to service. He has volunteered at the First Broad Street United Methodist Church for each of his three years as well as at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. He has been a participant in Carson-Newman's annual Operation INASMUCH and a mentor for elementary school students in and around his hometown of Kingsport, Tenn. He is on the leadership council for the men's basketball program and has also worked with Tiny Tots as well as helped pack and deliver Hurricane Helene relief supplies for Unicoi County.
