Browder repeats as CSC Academic All-American of the Year
AUSTIN, Texas – Carson-Newman senior small forward Jack Browder (Kingsport, Tenn.) has been named the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for NCAA Division II men's basketball, the organization announced Tuesday at noon.
Browder earns Academic All-America First Team honors for a third straight year to go along with his spot at the head of the table on the team for a second consecutive season.
Browder is the only Carson-Newman student-athlete to win the award, he is the 12th and 13th player in league history to win the award, and the only one to repeat.
The senior follows Anderson's Nick Trull (2011-12) as the only men's basketball players to hoist this hardware. He is just the third/fourth man in the league's history to win the honor, joining Trull and Tusculum baseball's Taylor Rakes (2012-13).
Browder's selection as an Academic All-American brings Carson-Newman to 83 all-time. The Eagles have had 62 Academic All-Americans in the last 11 years, the second-most in the South Atlantic Conference in that span to Wingate. Browder is the fourth three-time Academic All-American in the department's history, joining swimmers Paden Duke, Asger Hartvig and Mary Northcutt. However, Browder is the only one in school history to win three straight first-team Academic All-America honors.
Browder was also named the South Atlantic Conference's Men's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year for a third consecutive season, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
