Wingate Moves on to National Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The No. 2-ranked Wingate University men's golf team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship match on Thursday evening, defeating Missouri-St. Louis, 3.5-1.5, in the national semifinal at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
With the victory, the Bulldogs advance to Friday's NCAA Division II National Championship match, where they will face Florida Southern for the national title. Florida Southern advanced with a 4-1 victory over Lee in the other semifinal matchup.
Wingate earned victories from Brandon Skidmore, Lewis Beeden and Mattia D'Errico to secure the team triumph. Skidmore posted a 3UP win over Leo Baudry, while Beeden earned a 2UP victory against Benjamin Berger. D'Errico delivered the clinching point for the Bulldogs with a 3UP win over Logan Mayo.
Alfie Storer battled to a tie against Trigg Lindahl, while Cole Rouse fell in a tightly contested match to Daniel Solavera.
The Bulldogs continue their historic postseason run Friday as they look to capture the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship against the Moccasins.
