The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2021 Men's Lacrosse Award Winners
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Eric Dickinson was selected as the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year, while Anderson's Cam Weeks was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Wingate's Tim Boyle was named the Coach of the Year, the SAC office announced today.
Dickinson, a senior attacker from Charlotte N.C., played in all 11 games for the Bears and was the third best scorer on the team. The attacker netted 32 goals and assisted on 22. Dickinson scored four goals in a game on four different occasions. Additionally, he scooped up 29 ground balls and caused six turnovers to help Lenoir-Rhyne to win the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Dickinson was named South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Offensive Player of the Week once this season
Weeks, a freshman faceoff specialist from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., led the Trojans in ground balls with 157 playing in all 11 games this season. He won 208 of his 286 faceoffs to lead the league while also garnered three points on three goals this season. In their first year as a program, Anderson earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
Boyle earns his first Coach of the Year honor after leading the Bulldogs to national prominence and a 10-1 record on the season. Under his leadership, the team was ranked as high as No. 3 in Division II and was named in two top-20 polls for the past ten weeks. The Bulldogs found themselves in the top-five for multiple statistical categories, including caused turnovers (117), assists (134), goals per game (18.82), ground balls (493), clear percentage (91.7) and man-up percentage (44.4).
Joining Dickinson on first team attack is teammate Myles Moffat and Wingate's Willie Grieco. On the All-SAC First Team at midfield is Newberry's Kyle Dunklee, Wingate's Danny Riley and Lenoir-Rhyne's Bryce Reece. The three defenders are James Houston of Wingate, Payton Leonard of Catawba, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Connor Stanley. The final four members of the first team are Reese Orman of Wingate at long pole, Limestone's Jake Croster as a Short-Stick Defensive midfielder, Anderson's Cam Weeks as a Faceoff Specialist and Lenoir-Rhyne's Noah Johnson in goal.
The 2021 South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place April 23-25 at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.
