HICKORY, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne men's lacrosse team completed an impressive conference season with a 19-14 victory over nationally-ranked Wingate on their home turf inside Moretz Stadium. The nationally-ranked Bears have now won their last four games and claimed their second SAC Championship and fifth regular season title.
In the first quarter, the Bears were down 5-4 before adding eight goals to Wingate's three heading into the half. The Bulldogs came back from the half scoring four goals to create a two-point deficit at the end of the third. The Bears came out on fire early on in the fourth quarter scoring five goals to win the championship.
Individually, Will Canata led the Bears offensively with five goals, while teammate Myles Moffat scored four. The SAC Player of the Year and Tournament MVP Eric Dickinson netted three goals. Defensively, Victor Powell caused five turnovers to go along with his three ground balls while defender Zach Bodeau collected a team-high 15 ground balls and won 22-28 of his face-offs. Goalie Noah Johnson collected 16 saves with 30 shots on goal.
The NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse selection show is scheduled to air on Sunday, May 9 on NCAA.com, which will determine the postseason fates of the SAC schools.
