Wingate's Grieco, Kranich and Caponi Earn South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Varsity Gems Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the fifth week of the 2023 season. Wingate swept the awards as Willie Grieco was named the offensive player of the week, Joe Karnich was named the defensive player of the week, and Johnny Caponi was named the specialist of the week. 

Grieco, a senior from Lawerenceville, Ga., led No. 9 Wingate to a 19-14 victory over No. 10 Limestone in the Crown Classic. Grieco piled up four goals and six assists, adding two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, needing just five shots to score his four goals.

Karnich, a junior from Holbrook, N.Y., was a key player in the Bulldogs 19-14 win over No. 10 Limestone in the Crown Classic on Saturday, adding six ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers, and one assist. 

Caponi, a senior from Oakland, N.J., came up big on Saturday night as the No. 9 Bulldogs took down No. 10 Limestone. He piled up 16 saves on the night, adding seven ground balls and notching an assist in the victory.
