Carson-Newman wins fourth straight SAC Men’s Soccer Championship
JEFFERSON CITY, TN-- Dario Carrasco scored four goals and Tyler Baldock ended his last regular season game as a Carson-Newman Eagle with another shutout in goal as the Eagles defeated Newberry, 4-0 to claim their fourth straight South Atlantic Conference title.
The Eagles (12-0-2, 5-0-1 SAC) outshot the Indians 21-10 in the match. Carrasco opened the C-N scoring with a goal at the 23rd minute off an assist from Omar Cooke for a 1-0 lead that the Eagles took into halftime.
In the second half, Carrasco took over the final ten minutes of the match. He scored on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead, then scored two goals in a little more than a minute. In the 85th minute, Carrasco reached a hat trick with his third goal off another Cooke assist to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead and then completed his final regular season game with a goal off a Chris Collins assist for the final margin of victory. Baldock stopped three Indian shots to preserve the win and earn his ninth victory of the season and seventh shutout of the season.
As the top seed, Carson-Newman will earn a bye in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Food Lion SAC Men's Soccer Tournament. Carson-Newman will host the semifinals and finals of the tournament Friday and next Sunday.
