Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team And Award Winners Announced
ROCK HILL, SC - Carson-Newman College coach Allen Vital, who guided the Eagles to the 2009 South Atlantic Conference championship, was named Men's Soccer Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career, while Wingate University All-American Luke Mulholland was named Player of the Year. Newberry College freshman Adrian Ochoa was named Freshman of the Year.
The Scholar Athlete Award for men's soccer went to Junior Nyemb of Wingate University.
Mulholland, a junior midfielder from Preston, England, has been named first-team All-Conference each of his three seasons and was named a third-team All-American last season. This season, he is averaging 1.0 goal per match and 2.2 points per match. Eleven of his 15 goals this season came against conference opponents.

Vital guided the Eagles to their sixth conference title in the last seven years. He ranks second all-time in conference wins and wins this award for the fifth time in his career.
Ochoa, a freshman forward from East Point, Ga. (Tri-Cities HS), was named second team All-Conference and led Newberry with six goals in his first season.
Carson-Newman led the way on the All-Conference team with seven selections. Forwards Omar Cooke and Robert Hill, as well as defenders Adam Thomas and Matthew Finlay were named to the first team. Midfielders Everardo Flores and Richard Marquetty were named to the second team, as was goalkeeper Jordan Moore.
Tusculum College also had seven All-Conference selections. Midfielders Anteneh Lemma and Scott Lucky, were first-team selections, while forwards Andres Jarquin, Marc Joseph, midfielder Lucas Paulini and defenders Nick Rich and Phillip Hagen were named to the second team.
Lincoln Memorial University had five All-Conference selections. Midfielder Aaron McKenna, defender Lucas Pereira and goalkeeper Mike Watkins were all named to the first team, while forwards Willian Moura and Fernando Silveira were named to the second team.
Wingate University placed four on the All-Conference team. Joining Mulholland on the first team are Nyemb at forward and defender Tom Poole. Defender Jack Vundum was named to the second team.
Lenoir-Rhyne University had three selections. Forward Dave Bailey, midfielder Gary Higgins and defender Jon Abraham were all named to the first team.
Newberry's Ochoa, a second-team pick, rounds out the All-Conference team.
The All-Conference teams are selected by the league's head coaches.
The Fair Play Award for men's soccer went to Tusculum. The award goes to the team that demonstrates good sportsmanship in conference play.
Nyemb is a senior forward majoring in Modern Languages and has a 3.565 GPA.
Nyemb is a four-time All- Conference selection and two-time All-Region selection and his career statistics include 44 goals, 13 assists and 13 match-winners.
He has been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District team three times, including being a first team selection this year.
An active member of Wingate's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Nyemb attended the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Leadership Development Conference. He also took part in the Wingate University Leadership Fellows.
