Wingate’s Mulholland, Tusculum’s Lemma Earn Daktronics All-America Honors From Daktronics
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Wingate University junior midfielder Luke Mulholland (Preston, England) has been named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II men's soccer All-American first team, officials announced this week.
Mulholland is the only student-athlete from the Southeast Region to earn first team laurels, and the only SAC representative on the first three teams. Tusculum College midfielder Anteneh Lemma earned Honorable Mention honors. The Daktronics All-American teams are selected by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The 2009 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Mulholland led the Bulldogs with 17 goals this season. Thirteen of his 17 goals were scored in conference matches. His 0.94 goals per game and 2.06 points per game top the SAC charts. He also led the conference with eight match-winning goals.

Wingate earned a berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs this year, advancing to the regional semi-finals with a 13-5-1 overall record. The Bulldogs posted a 6-1-1 ledger in the SAC.
"This (award) is a reward for an absolutely great season," Wingate head coach Gary Hamill says. "Luke's hard work paid off for him."
"Luke Mulholland is a leader on and off the field," Hamill adds. "His leadership skills and work ethic are second to none. He is without a doubt the most influential leader we have had during my tenure."
Mulholland achieves a career All-American double-double with the selection, as he was named to the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II All-America third team in 2008. Mulholland is the 12th student-athlete in the school's senior college history to earn All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Mulholland was also named to both the NSCAA and the Daktronics men's soccer All-Southeast Region first teams last year. He is two-time NSCAA regional honoree, as he was selected for the NSCAA All-Appalachian Region first team in 2007.
Lemma was named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Team for the second year in a row, garnering Honorable Mention recognition after leading the Pioneers to their second consecutive Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament title this fall.
Lemma led the Pioneers in nearly every statistical category this season, recording team-highs in goals (11), points (30), and match-winners (4), while finishing the campaign second on the team with eight assists. The 2008 Daktronics NCAA Division II Second Team All-American scored four goals, including a pair of match-winners, in the SAC Tournament to propel the Pioneers to the program's fourth conference tournament crown.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Lemma concludes his career with 26
goals, 26 assists, and 78 points. The three-time All-SAC selection
ranks fifth in program history with four match-winning goals, while
ranking among the school's top all-time assists leaders.
Lemma also holds the distinguished honor of being the first player to garner Daktronics All-American recognition twice in his career, accomplishing the feat in back-to-back seasons. During his three seasons with the Pioneers, Lemma was named to the All-SAC Team three times, including a pair of first team selections, while garnering All-American honors three times (two Daktronics and one NSCAA). Lemma has also been named to the Daktronics and NSCAA All-Region teams a total of four times, as the Pioneers posted a combined 41-18-5 record during his tenure.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men's soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fourth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II men's soccer All-America and All-Region teams.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The online nomination and voting processes are powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
