The South Atlantic Conference Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during the fifth week of the 2022 season. Newberry forward Ferran Macian was named the offensive player of the week, while Mars Hill goalkeeper Brennan Whalen was named defensive player of the week.
Macian, a sophomore from Valencia, Spain, led the Wolves to a 1-1 record last week with a win over SAC foe Lincoln Memorial. He recorded two goals and four points for the week, scoring a goal in Newberry's loss to Limestone and scoring the game-winning goal in the Wolves' 1-0 win over Lincoln Memorial.
Whalen, a senior from Cumming, Ga., picked up two shutout victories in the goal for the Lions last week with 1-0 win over Tusculum and a 1-0 win over No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne. Whalen made three saves against Tusculum and made two saves versus Lenoir-Rhyne. For the week he had five saves and two shutouts in 180 minutes of action.
