The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week for meets competed in during the third week of the 2023-24 season. Mars Hill swept the awards as Maria Jose Orozco was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week and Andres Bodington was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Jose Orozco, a freshman from California Hot Springs, Colombia, collected five first place finishes over the two home meets on the weekend. On Friday versus Lenoir-Rhyne, she won the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:16.18 and swam the fly leg of the winning 200 Medley Relay, splitting a 26.85. In Saturday's contest against Emory & Henry, she won the 50 Freestyle (25.28) and 100 Butterfly (1:00.60) and led off the 200 Freestyle Relay in 25.73.
Bodington, a freshman from Caracas, Venezuela, recorded five victories for the Lions across the two home contests this weekend. He started the weekend off with wins in the 200 Butterfly (1:59.11), 500 Freestyle (4:47.49), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:09.47) versus Lenoir-Rhyne. In Saturday's meet versus Emory & Henry, Bodington won the 1650 Freestyle (16:55.53) and the 100 Butterfly (53.76). Additionally, his times in the 1650 and 500 Free qualified him for the CSCAA Open Water Championships.
