Wingate Men, Tusculum and Wingate Women Earn NCAA Tennis Championship Bids
The NCAA has revealed the brackets for the 2014 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, with the Wingate men and Tusculum and Wingate women receiving selections.
INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has revealed the brackets for the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, with the Wingate men and Tusculum and Wingate women receiving selections.
In the men's bracket, Wingate is the No. 7 seed in the southeast region, and will open up play at second-seeded Columbus St. on Saturday.
Wingate is 18-7 overall and won the SAC regular-season title with a perfect 11-0 league record. The Bulldogs earned an automatic qualification bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2014 Food Lion SAC Tennis Championship.
On the women's side, Wingate is seeded fifth and Tusculum eighth in the southeast region. Wingate will face No. 4 seed Francis Marion in the first round, while Tusculum - the SAC's AQ - will take on top-seeded and regional host Armstrong. Both matches will be played on Sunday.
Tusculum is 22-2, went 10-1 in the SAC and claimed the SAC Tournament title, while Wingate won the conference's regular-season championship at 11-0 and is 19-5 overall.
Winners of each regional will advance to the NCAA Division II national championships, May 14-17 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
