ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Wingate Bulldogs captured the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday (April 20), defeating the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte 4-1.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Queens earned a victory at No. 4 singles from Mathias Degardin, but with wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6, Wingate secured the 4-1 victory.
Wingate's Daniel Belsito was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship. Belsito went 6-0 during the championship, winning all of his matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
With the win, the Bulldogs earn an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship.
