The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– Tusculum's Zackary Nelson was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Carson-Newman's Joseph Oreva was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the fourth week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Nelson, a junior from St. Johns, Fla., set a school record and earned a NCAA qualifying time in the 400 meters at the VMI Winter Relays over the weekend with a time of 48.31 to beat the field by 1.71 seconds; and recorded the ninth fastest time in Division II. Nelson also ran the third leg of the Pioneers' 4x400 meter relay that finished in first place and broke the school record with a time of 3:19.44.
Oreva, a sophomore from Port Harcourt, Nigeria took the win in long jump at the Tiger Paw Invite in Louisville, Kentucky with a mark of 7.24 meters. Oreva was one of two jumpers at the event to break 7.00 meters.
This award is Nelson's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Oreva's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
