The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate Joseph Oreva was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the fourth week of the outdoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Charamba, a freshman sprinter from Harare, Zimbabwe won all three events he competed in at the Lee Flames Invitational. In the 200 meter-dash, he clocked a time of 20.84 seconds; the second-fastest time in all of Division-II. In the 100 meter-dash, Charamba ran a NCAA provisional time of 10.48 seconds placing him within the top-20 in Division-II; while being a member of the winning men's 4x100 meter relay team with a time 40.99 seconds.
Oreva, a sophomore jumper from Port Harcourt, Nigeria set the number one mark in Division-II long jump this season with a jump of 7.77 meters at the Joe May Invitational at LSU, finishing in third place while beating out Division-I opponents form LSU, Houston, Kentucky, Kent State and UCONN. The mark is just 0.03 from tying the school record set by Larry Cooke in 1977.
This award is Charamba's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Oreva's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
