The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate Courtavious Garrett was named the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the fifth week of the outdoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Charamba, a freshman sprinter from Harare, Zimbabwe won all three events he competed in at the Electric City Invitational. He won the 100-meter and 200-meter, setting a new personal best in the 100m with a time of 10.41 seconds. He was also a member of the first place 4x100 team that set a new Carson-Newman program record of 40.59 seconds in the event.
Garrett, a sophomore jumper from Greenwood, Fla., won both the long jump and the triple jump at the Electric City Invitational. His winning leap in the long jump was 7.12 meters, while his winning jump in the triple was a new personal best of 14.46 meters.
