Carson-Newman's Charamba Named South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Makanakaishe Charamba has been named the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Thursday (June 9).
Charamba, a freshman from Harare, Zimbabwe, earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American Honors in three events at the NCAA National Championships; the 4x100 meter relay, the 200-meter dash, and the 100-meter dash. Along with Siphosethu Boya, PJ Lotharp, and Devon Moore, Charamba placed third at the National Championship in the 4x100 relay with a time of 39.63. Charamba also placed third in the 200-meter and 100-meter races at the National Championship, posting a time of 20.44 in the 200m and 10.52 in the 100m.
The 2022 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year, Charamba was named SAC Men's Track & Field Freshman of the Year and was the 2022 SAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Athlete of the Meet.
The SAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined following the completion of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship and is voted on by the league's head coaches.
