Wingate Wins 2021 SAC Men's Cross Country Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – With seven runners finishing in the top 10, the Wingate University men's cross country team claimed the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Championship, Saturday morning at the McAlpine Creek Park, located in Charlotte, N.C.
Wingate, who sits at No.9 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll outraced No. 18 Queens and Catawba for the title. Anderson tied with Catawba for third place however, finished fourth overall due to scoring order.
Queens' Jan Lukas Becker, who won AstroTurf SAC Runner of the Week on three occasions, covered the 8K course with a time of 23:50.5 to claim SAC Runner of the Year accolades.
Wingate's Bastian Mrochen Freshman of the Year honors after crossing the finish line to earn third place with a time of 23:59.6.
The NCAA Southeast Region Championships, which will be hosted in Saint Leo, Fla. at the Abbey Golf Course is slated for Saturday, Nov. 20.
