Wingate Wins 2022 SAC Men's Cross Country Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Wingate University men's cross country team claimed the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Championship title Saturday morning at Salisbury Community Park. Their victory was highlighted by six of their runners finishing in the top 10.
Wingate, who is ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' poll and No. 1 in the Southeast Region top-10 rankings, secured the conference title with ease with a score of 23. Catawba followed in second with a score of 54, and Anderson claimed third at 67.
Wingate's Soheil Boufrizi completed the 8k course in first with a time of 25:22.6 to claim the SAC Runner of the Year title.
Catawba's Tanner Smith earned SAC Freshman of the Year honors after finishing 10th with a time of 26:07.7.
The NCAA Southeast Regional cross country meet, which will be hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, N.C., is slated to take place Saturday, November 19th.
