The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played in the fifth weekend of the 2021 season. Mars Hill's Ashley Evans earns the Player honor while Newberry's Alexandrea Sullivan earns the Pitcher honor.
A senior utility player Evans, helped lead the Lions a 1-1 record over Carson-Newman this past weekend. Overall, the Columbia, S.C. native averaged a 1.000 batting average, going 5-for-5 from the plate with a 3.000 slugging percentage, nine RBI's and three homeruns. This is Evans' first Player of the Week honor of the season.
Sullivan, a freshman pitcher, was once again a dominate force for the Wolves complete-game shutouts. She allowed no runs, only four hits and 12 strikeouts in her game against Limestone while going on to allow no runs, only two hits and eight strikeouts versus Francis Marion. Overall, she went 14 innings with just four hits, two walks and 20 strikeouts. This is Sullivan's second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
