Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University senior, Tanetra Barrett, has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 7. It was announced today by the league office. Barrett, a native of Marshville, N.C., earns the honor for the second time this season as she helped the Bulldogs to a pair of league road wins last week.
Barrett, a former standout at Forest Hills High School, led the 20th-ranked Bulldogs to a 63-55 win over previously undefeated Newberry and a 61-49 win over Lincoln Memorial. Against Newberry, the 5-6 guard scored 16 points then added 15 points and 10 rebounds against LMU.
For the week, Barrett averaged 15.5 points and seven rebounds,
while adding four assists and three steals. She connected on 48%
of her field goal attempts and went 7-of-9 at the line. For the
season, Barrett leads Wingate in scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounding
(6.5 rpg).
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the nine member schools.
