Newberry’s Anita Bulcher Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Newberry College's Anita Bulcher has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today. Bulcher receives the award for the first time in her career and earns Newberry's fourth straight award.
Bulcher, a senior forward from Russia, Ohio, was the biggest contributor in Newberry's only game this week as the scarlet and gray picked up a 70-63 win on the road against Anderson University.
She shot 7-of-9 from the floor and was 5-of-7 at the charity
stripe to earn a career high 19 points. She also pulled down eight
rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end of the floor.
This season, Bulcher is averaging 13.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She has also shot 53 percent from the field and 80 percent from the foul line over her eight games played.
Newberry is now 7-2 on the season and is receiving votes in the WBCA/USA Today/ESPN Division II coaches' poll. The scarlet and gray have won five consecutive games.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
