Tusculum’s Stephany Neptune Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Stephany Neptune has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today.
Neptune, a junior forward from Walkill, N.Y., led the eighth-ranked Pioneers to SAC wins over Newberry and Wingate last week. On the week, Neptune averaged 20 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.
In Wednesday's 73-64 win over Newberry, Neptune led all scorers
with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting and was 7-for-8 from the charity
stripe. She also hauled down eight rebounds and dished out a
team-high four assists in the win. She blocked seven shots on the
week, six of which came in the Newberry game, tying a Tusculum
school record.
In Saturday's 98-79 win over Wingate, Neptune poured in 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. The 2007-08 WBCA All-American also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and recorded two steals.
Tusculum is now 16-2 on the year and 6-1 in South Atlantic Conference play, placing the Pioneers in a tie for first place with Lenoir-Rhyne. Saturday night will see a game with championship implications, as Tusculum visits Lenoir-Rhyne.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
