Tusculum’s Stephany Neptune Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Stephany Neptune has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today.
Neptune, a junior forward from Wallkill, N.Y., averaged 17.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as Tusculum defeated Wingate and Carson-Newman.
In Wednesday's 85-66 win at Wingate, the junior forward poured in 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting while hauling down a season-high 18 rebounds to notch her ninth double-double of the year. Neptune also blocked two shots to become the program's all-time leader with 127 career rejections.
In Saturday's 94-91 win over Carson-Newman, Neptune recorded her
fourth consecutive double-double with 21 points and 13 boards,
knocking down 8-of-15 attempts from the floor while converting all
of her five free throw opportunities.
With her two double-doubles, Neptune has now recorded at least five
rebounds in 59 straight games.
Tusculum now stands at 21-3 overall and 11-2 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Pioneers are ranked 14th nationally in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Coaches' Poll and fourth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region. The Pioneers will play at Newberry this Wednesday and at Brevard on Saturday.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
