Wingate’s Kurie Washington Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University's Kurie Washington has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by league officials today.
Washington, a freshman guard from Marion, N.C., averaged 22 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game as Wingate defeated Mars Hill and Newberry.
In Wednesday's 79-64 win at Mars Hill, Washington netted 25
points, grabbed four rebounds and had four steals.
In Saturday's 83-72 home win over Newberry, Washington scored a game-high 19 points, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals. For the week, Washington hit 13-of-13 free throws for a perfect 1.000 free throw percentage. In addition, she nailed seven-of-nine three-point field goals for a 77.8 clip.
Washington is Wingate's second-leading scorer with 14.4 points per game. In SAC play, she is averaging 17.7 points per game. During Wingate's last seven games, Washington is delivering 20.1 points per game.
Wingate now stands at 16-9 overall and 7-7 in SAC action going into the final week of regular season play. The Bulldogs host Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday before closing the season at Carson-Newman on Saturday.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
