Carson-Newman’s Shannon Depew Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Carson-Newman College's Shannon Depew has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 19, 2010.

Depew, a freshman forward from Newport, Tenn. (Cocke County HS), led the Lady Eagles to a 54-50 comeback win over Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday. Depew finished the night with 15 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and two assists.

She scored all 15 of her points in the second half to help the Lady Eagles erase a 16-point deficit. Depew knocked down three crucial shots from behind the arc, including a 3-pointer at the 3:00 mark that gave C-N the lead for good.

Depew is averaging 7.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game this season and is among the conference leaders with 25 blocks.
