Tusculum’s Catherine Hintz Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Catherine Hintz has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 23, 2011.

Hintz, a senior center from Hastings, Minn. (Central Illinois), helped the Pioneers to two SAC wins last week, averaging 13.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks while shooting 11-for-13 from the field in wins over Anderson (76-52) and Mars Hill (59-53).

Hintz scored a season-high 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over Anderson, and played a key role in the final moments of the win over Mars Hill. She hit the go-ahead free throw with 1:06 left to break a 53-53 tie, blocked a potential go-ahead jumper at the defensive end, then scored on a putback with 27.9 seconds left as the Pioneers moved into sole possession of first place in the SAC at 6-2. Hintz finished with 10 points and a season-high 13 rebounds against Mars Hill while playing just 16 minutes off the bench.

For the week, she hit 84.6 percent of her shots (11-13), had 20 rebounds and four blocked shots.
