SAC Women’s Basketball Programs to Support Play 4Kay Initiative
Women’s basketball programs from across the SAC will join together in the coming weeks in the fight against breast cancer by supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s “Play 4Kay” initiative.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Women's basketball programs from across the SAC will join together in the coming weeks in the fight against breast cancer by supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's "Play 4Kay" initiative.
Each of the league's 10 schools have designated a home game as its Play 4Kay support day. The games will take place Feb. 9-16. Fans are encouraged to attend these games and contribute to the fund, which furthers cancer research.
The mission of the initiative, which began in 2007, is to develop a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Thanks to participation from all of its member schools, the SAC has raised over $20,000 in support over the past four years. The school that raises the most money for the initiative will be recognized at the 2013 Food Lion SAC Basketball Championship in Grenville, S.C.
Play 4Kay is named after legendary coach Kay Yow, who fought a courageous and very public battle against breast cancer to build a platform dedicated to improving and extending the lives of cancer patients. After three recurrences of the disease, Coach Yow passed away on January 24, 2009.
