Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, LMU Earn Spots in NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional Poll
The first NCAA Division II women’s basketball southeast region rankings of the season were released on Wednesday, with three SAC programs earning spots – including the poll’s top two teams.
INDIANAPOLIS – The first NCAA Division II women's basketball southeast region rankings of the season were released on Wednesday, with three SAC programs earning spots – including the poll's top two teams.
At 19-4 overall and 14-4 in the SAC, Lenoir-Rhyne is the top-ranked team in the regional rankings. The Bears – winners of eight-straight games - were also ranked No. 24 in this week's WBCA national poll.
Following Lenoir-Rhyne in the regional poll is No. 2 Wingate. The Bulldogs are currently 18-4 overall and tied with L-R atop the conference standings at 14-4.
Lenoir-Rhyne is the SAC's top scoring offense at 71.2 points per game, while Wingate leads the conference in field goal defense at 35.8-percent.
Rounding out the SAC's representation in the poll is Lincoln Memorial at No. 10. The Railsplitters are in third place in the conference standings at 11-7, and are 12-10 overall.
The NCAA regional rankings are used by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee during selections for the NCAA Championship.
