The South Atlantic Conference Raises a Conference Single Season Record $21,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference women's basketball member institutions raised a South Atlantic Conference record $21,000 for the Kay Yow Cancer fund this past season. Lenoir-Rhyne raised the most money for the initiative in the League as it raised $5,250.
The South Atlantic Conference joined the initiative in raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund during the 2008-2009 season and to date has raised $98,856.
"We are so grateful to the South Atlantic Conference for their continued support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund," said Kay Yow Cancer Fund Executive Director Stephanie Glance. "The schools in this conference exemplify the vision of Coach Kay Yow when she created the Kay Yow Cancer Fund; and that is to unite a nation of coaches, players and communities of women's basketball to do something that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. Together, we will continue to make a significant impact in the fight against ALL women's cancer."
Lincoln Memorial raised the second-highest amount as it raised $4,209. The Railsplitters finished as the top fundraiser in the League for the Play4Kay initiative during the 2011, 2012 and 2015 seasons. Anderson, the 2013 top fundraiser, finished third in the League with $2,647 raised.
"I am very proud of all our women's basketball programs for embracing this worthy cause," said South Atlantic Conference Associate Commissioner and SWA Eliane Kebbe. "Not only are we raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund but we are educating our young women that this is a cause bigger than basketball."
"I am proud that the South Atlantic Conference continues to be the model for how conferences can help support a worthy cause like the Kay Yow Cancer Fund," said South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz. "Our women's basketball programs and member institutions have been amazing in this regard and I would like to thank each and everyone of them!"
