Anderson and Carson-Newman Women's Basketball Ranked Nationally, Regional Rankings Released by D2SIDA
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's women's basketball team continues their climb in the latest D2SIDA national rankings, earning the No. 11 slot, while tabbed No. 21 by WBCA. Carson-Newman rejoined the poll at No. 25.
The Trojans (15-2, 9-0 SAC) are on a 13-game winning streak, including 40-point conference victory during the week to advance up in the national standings. Anderson is third in Division II with 47.0 rebounds per game. The Trojans are also third nationally in defensive rebounds per game with 32, eighth with 799 total rebounds, ninth in field-goal percentage defense (34.5%), ninth in rebound margin (+10.8).
Individually across Division II, junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer ranks fourth in total rebounds with 203, while also ranking fifth in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), sixth in double-doubles (11), and eighth in rebounds per game (11.9).
The Eagles (14-4, 7-3 SAC) are on a three-game winning streak, and have won eight of their last 10 games. Nationally, Carson-Newman is third in free-throw percentage (80.3) and seventh in free throws made (294).
Individually, reigning SAC AstroTurf Women's Basketball Player of the Week Kayla Marosites is in the top-10 in four Division II categories: third in total rebounds (211), fourth in double-doubles (12), sixth in offensive rebounds per game (5), and 10th in rebounds per game (11.7).
In the D2SIDA southeast regional rankings, five of the top-eight spots belonged to SAC teams. Anderson hangs on to the No. 1 spot, while Carson-Newman and Wingate move into a tie for third. Tusculum and Newberry fall to No. 6 and No. 8, respectively.
The Trojans (15-2, 9-0 SAC) are the No. 1 team in the region for the third week and No. 11/21 in the nation. On the week, Anderson topped Catawba 100-60 for the Trojans' first triple-digit scoring effort of the season.
The Eagles (14-4, 7-3 SAC) are in a tie at No. 3 in the southeast. Carson-Newman went 2-0 on the week with wins over regionally-ranked Tusculum and Newberry.
The Bulldogs (12-4, 7-2 SAC) rise into a tie for third in the region, with victories over two regionally-ranked opponents: Newberry and Tusculum.
The Pioneers (11-4, 4-4 SAC) fall to No. 6 in the southeast after suffering two losses to regionally-ranked SAC foes in Carson-Newman and Tusculum.
The Wolves (11-4, 5-3 SAC) drop to No. 8 due to two losses at the hands of SAC and regionally-ranked teams in Wingate and Carson-Newman.
