The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for 2019 SAC Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson, ranked No. 7 in the nation, won the 2018-19 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title as it finished the season a perfect 20-0 in conference play. With the title, the Trojans have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon. Anderson enters the post game with an impressive 24-game winning streak.
Wingate finished in second with a 15-5 in record in conference, earning the No. 2 seed in SAC Championship. Carson-Newman's 15-5 SAC record was good for the No. 3 seed. Wingate won the tiebreaker over Carson-Newman based on its 2-0 head-to-head record against the Eagles. Earning the No. 4 was Lenoir-Rhyne, who finished the 2018-19 season SAC season with an 11-9 mark. Newberry landed at No. 5 in the bracket as finished with a .500 record in SAC play, and Lincoln Memorial earned the No. 6 seed with a record of 10-10 in conference play. Tusculum also had an even .500 record in SAC play. However, due to a violation of SAC Bylaws, the Pioneers had four wins nullified and therefore earned the No. 7 seed with Newberry winning the tiebreaker over Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum due to its winning record versus the other two teams. Lincoln Memorial won the tiebreaker with Tusculum due to its 1-1 record versus Wingate, while Tusculum was 0-2.
Rounding out the field at No. 8 was Catawba with a record of 8-12 in SAC play.
The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday (March 6), before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 9 and 10. The SAC Pilot Flying J Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
