The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for 2020 Women's Basketball Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson, ranked No. 21 in the nation, won the 2019-20 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title as it finished the season a 19-3 record in conference play. With the title, the Trojans have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's SAC Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon.
Carson-Newman finished in second with a 17-5 record in conference, earning the No. 2 seed in SAC Championship. Tusculum 16-6 SAC record was good for the No. 3 seed.
Earning the No. 4 seed was Newberry with a winning percentage of .591, while Catawba slid into the No. 5 seed with a winning percentage of .589. Catawba earned the No. 5 seed after having to nullify eight games due to a violation of NCAA and SAC Bylaws.
Wingate landed at No. 6 seed in the bracket with a record of 11-11 in SAC play, and Lenoir-Rhyne earned the No. 7 seed with a record of 9-13 in conference play. Rounding out the field at the No. 8 seed was Lincoln Memorial with a record of 9-13 in SAC play. Lenoir-Rhyne won the tiebreaker over Lincoln Memorial by virtue of its 2-0 record versus the Railsplitters.
The 2020 SAC Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday (March 4), before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 7 and 8. The SAC Pilot Flying J Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
