Wingate's Bryanna Troutman Named 2021-2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Bryanna Troutman was voted the 2021-22 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This will be the first time Troutman will have received this honor.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Troutman, a junior forward, has been a member of the women's basketball program for three years and currently has a 3.41 Cumulative GPA while studying Exercise Science.
Troutman, a junior from Salisbury, N.C., was just the ninth player in Wingate women's basketball history to be named Player of the Year this season. One of the league leaders in scoring, she averaged 19.5 points per game while also ranking first in the league for points scored in the first 40 minutes of play. She led the team with 13.8 points per game and recorded six double-doubles in her sophomore season.
On the court, as a true freshman starter she averaged 7.2 rebounds per game and 9.1 points per game while also adding 35 assists, 28 blocks and 36 steals on the season. Troutman had an even better sophomore season earning First Team All-SAC honors and recording 13.8 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and scoring in double figures 13 times.
"Bryanna is the true combination of a student-athlete. She is committed to being successful both on and off the court," said head coach Ann Hancock. "Her dedication is impressive to watch. She makes sacrifices so she can accomplish her goals and dreams. It is hard to measure the numerous ways she impacts our team. There is no doubt she is a role model for those around her. I am proud to have been able to see her grow as a person, student and basketball player and look forward to seeing what else she sets her sights on in the future. The sky is the limit for her."
A native of Salisbury, N.C., Troutman, has been active on and off of the court, not only in the Wingate community but her home community as well. For the past three years she has been a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes group on campus and has been a nursing home caregiver during the summers and weekends. She currently conduct's one-on-one caregiving to locals in Wingate who have dementia and works with and provides goods to local food banks and churches.
