ROCK HILL, S.C. (theSAC.com) -- The Anderson Trojans became just the second eight seed to upset the 1-seed in the SAC Tournament Quarterfinal in conference history with a 79-63 victory on Wednesday afternoon. The win broke Lenoir-Rhyne's 19-game winning streak and sent the defending champion Trojans on to the Semifinals.
In the second game of the day, Lincoln Memorial flexed its muscle with a 72-42 win over Catawba.
Anderson never trailed in the win, pushing the lead to 15 on a 3-pointer by Ashley Hill to close out the first half with a 46-31 edge.
It was more of the same in the third quarter as the AU advantage swelled to 64-41.
With Anderson up 75-57 at the 3:06 mark, LR started a final comeback attempt. They cut the lead to 12 on a fastbreak bucket by Aaliyah El but would get no closer.
Ciara Harris dropped 21 for Anderson on 7-of-10 shooting and Kyla Cain added 18 points and 11 boards. Ashlyn Sheridan had 15 points and hit a trio of 3-pointers.
In the nightcap, it was all Railsplitters. LMU led 18-10 after one, 35-18 at the break and 53-23 after three quarters. Asia Barr went off for the second-seeded Railsplitters, scoring 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting and 7-of-10 from long range.
SAC Player of the Year Kamil Collier had 15 points and eight boards and Maleiya Hill had 10 points.
Catawba was led by 12 points from Mary Spry.
Anderson will take on the winner of tomorrow's Carson-Newman vs. UVA Wise game while LMU battles the victor of Coker/Wingate. Each team earns a night off and will return to action on Friday.
