Limestone's Hellman, Anderson's McGaha and Neal Highlight 2022 SAC Women's Golf Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Limestone's Ebba Hellman was selected as the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golfer of the Year, while Anderson's Kennedy McGaha was named the Conference's Freshman of the Year and Anderson's head coach Danny Neal was named the Coach of the Year as voted on by the women's golf head coaches, the SAC office announced today.
Hellman, a graduate student from Ronninge, Sweden, is currently the No. 1 women's golfer in NCAA Division II with a 72.15 scoring average. She has finished in the top-10 nine times this season, while placing in the top-five seven times, and she has captured four tournament championships, while leading the No. 4 Saints to five tournament victories as a team. She has carded 15 rounds at or below par, including a team-best 67 (-5), this season.
McGaha, a freshman from Honea Path, S.C., is currently ranked No. 23 nationally with a scoring average of 74.24. She posted three top-10 finishes, including a third place finish at the Findlay Spring Invite this season. McGaha had a total of eight top-20 finishes this season, shooting a season-low 68 with two rounds of 69 and she set the Anderson record for the lowest 36-hole total (137) at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial.
Neal earns his third Coach of the Year honor after leading the Anderson Trojans to a No. 6 NCAA Division II National ranking. Neal's Trojans earned two tournament championships this season and did not finish below fourth all year. They won the Patsy Rendleman Invitational and the Findlay Spring Invite, while placing second in the South Region Preview, the Flagler Fall Slam, the Lady Moc Classic, and the Emerald Coast Classic. Four of Anderson's players are ranked in the NCAA Division II Top-50 with six ranked in the top-100.
Joining Hellman on the All-SAC First Team is Limestone's Stina Wikstrom with a scoring average of 73.20. Anderson's Jessica Rathbone checks in with a scoring average of 73.52, and Carson-Newman's Mauve Cummins and Ellie Haughton round out the first team with scoring averages of 74.83 and 75.22, respectively.
The 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship will run from Sunday, April 3 through Tuesday, April 5, at the Hartsville Country Club in Hartsville, S.C.
