Wingate Holds Down Second Place After Day One of NCAA Women's Golf Regional
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- After the first day of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional, Wingate sits five shots back of first-place Lynn in a tie for second place. The Bulldogs fired a +11 in the first round and are tied with Erskine after 18 holes. Anderson is in a fifth-place tie while Lincoln Memorial is in a tie for 14th.
Wingate was led by Olivia Meinecke who is in first place overall with a 70 (-2). Meinecke birdied four holes and shot a 34 on the front nine. One spot behind is SAC Women's Golfer of the Year, Amely Bochaton who shot a 72.
In fourth place is Carson-Newman's Anaelle Picot who was selected to compete as an individual at the regional. Picot shot a +1 and finished her round with a birdie on 18. Catawba's Mary-Paige King was also selected to compete as an individual and she sits in 10th place with a +2, tied with Anderson's Olivia Pellerin. Lenoir-Rhyne's Eve Neild is 18th after carding a +3 in her opening round.
Anderson's Paige Paolucci (18th, +2) and Aly Francis (23rd, +4) also had strong days to open the regional.
Round two at the Cleveland Country Club, a par 72, 6,036 yard course, will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The average round score for the day was a 77.73.
