Wingate Wins Women's Golf Regional Title; Anderson Also Advances to National Championship
CLEVELAND, TENN. -- After a challenging day two on the links, the Wingate women's golf team won the NCAA DII South Regional. The Bulldogs shot a +4 in round 2 and +15 in round four, six shots better than Tampa on the day, to take an eight shot victory.
Anderson shot a +19 and finished in a fourth-place tie with Barry at +45. The Trojans finished above the cut line and will advance to the National Championship.
Wingate's Olivia Meinecke finished in a tie for second place individually, firing a +1 but was four shots works than Kajsa Lindqvist from Lander who took the top spot. Lindqvist finished one shot clear of Wingate's Meinecke and teammate Amely Bochaton.
LMU's Ruby McLellan finished in a fifth-place tie after shooting a +1 and par in her two rounds. Catawba's Mary Paige King finished tied for seventh with a +6 after rounds of +3 and -1 on the day. McLellan earned one of the region's individual qualifying spots and advanced to the National Championship.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Eve Neild finished in 17th after firing a +6 and +2 in her two rounds to stand a +11 for the tournament. She tied with Carson-Newman's Anaelle Picot.
The Bulldogs and Trojans, along with LMU's McLellan, advance to the NCAA Division II Women's National Championship (May 12–14) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
