The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2021 Women's Soccer Award Winners
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba College forward Hannah Dunn was voted as the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, while Catawba College defender Katie Beck was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year. Limestone University midfielder Azumi Manriki was selected as the conference Freshman of the Year, and Catawba head coach Nick Brown was voted as the Coach of the Year, the conference announced today.
Dunn, a freshman from Concord, N.C., led the Catawba Indians to the 2021 SAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Title. She leads the conference in goals scored (16) and points (37), and she is also third in NCAA Division II in points per game (2.47) and is tied for fourth in the nation in total goals and total points. Dunn also recorded four game-winning goals during the season, including two game-winners in league play. She was named SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week twice during the season.
Beck, a junior from Clermont, Fla., earns her third consecutive SAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year honor after anchoring a Catawba Indian defense that surrendered just five goals during the season and had a goals against average of 0.27. In addition to her defensive prowess, Beck netted eight goals and had two assists for 18 points. She was also named SAC Defensive Player of the Week once during the season.
Manriki, a freshman from Hiroshima, Japan, scored five goals and have six assists this season for 16 points. She led the Saints in points and assists and was second on the team in goals scored. Included in her five goals this season was a game-winner against Coker.
Brown led the nationally ranked No. 9 Catawba Indians to a 15-0-2 record during the regular season, going 10-0-1 in conference play. Under his leadership, Catawba won the regular season championship leading the league in goals (57), assists (50), goals against average (0.27), and goals against (5).
Joining Dunn, Beck, and Manriki on the All-SAC First Team were forwards Helen Summerell of Catawba, Alicia Rubio Garcia of Wingate, and Rachel Taylor of Lincoln Memorial.
The first team midfielders were Sydney Jimmo of Catawba, McKenna DeLong of Wingate, and Karen Juarez of Queens.
On defense, Ria Acton and Vivien Beck Peralta of Lenoir-Rhyne and Kristen DeBiase of Wingate were named to the first team, while Queens' Erica Turner was named the first team goalkeeper.
