South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week two of the 2024 season. Emory & Henry's Charlotte Stavis was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Lincoln Memorial's Bente Latenstein brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Stavis, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., led Emory & Henry to a 1-1 week including the Wasps' first league win in the South Atlantic Conference. In a 2-1 victory over Anderson, Stavis assisted on the equalizer in the 53rd minute with a cross from the left side. 22 minutes later, Stavis hit the match-winner from 30 yards out on a recycled corner, finding the top 90 at the back post.
Latenstein, a senior from Amsterdam, Netherlands, made 12 saves against the No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears and allowed just one goal in a 1-1 tie. For the week, Latenstein made 20 saves in the two LMU matches and recorded an .833 save percentage while playing all 180 minutes.
