WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week Announced for Week Five
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during week five of the 2024 season. Wingate's Emily Johnson was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Catawba's Riley Hill brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Johnson, a junior from Fort Collins, Colo., led the Bulldogs to a pair of huge wins, hitting .321 with 26 kills, 11 digs, 10 blocks and two aces. Johnson had 12 kills, six blocks and five digs in the big 3-1 victory at LR, handing the Bears their first loss of the season. Johnson hit .379 with 14 kills as Wingate won a five-set thriller against Flagler in a rematch of the 2022 regional title match in Cuddy Arena, adding six digs, four blocks and two aces.
Hill, a sophomore from Salisbury, N.C., collected a season-high 34 digs in the Catawba Indians' comeback victory over Coker on Friday night, finishing the week with 50 digs for a 6.25 per-set average. The sophomore also led Catawba in the service category as well with five aces, producing a team high in both matches.
