GREENWOOD, S.C. -- The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team beat their third straight higher seed, knocking off fifth-seeded Lander 1-0 to claim the Southeast Regional Championship. The Bears beat #3 seed Columbus St., #2 seed North Georgia and now the 5-seed Lander to earn the regional crown. All three wins came by a 1-0 final score.
For the second straight match, it was Lenoir-Rhyne's Lucia Hidalgo who scored the game winner. Hidalgo took a ball from Rosa Gonzalez in the 42nd minute to find the back of the net for the lone score in the contest.
Lander had a 10-7 edge in shots and a 7-3 lead in shots on goal but the Bears made the most of their opportunities.
Each of the three wins to capture the regional crown came away from home, with two being true road wins and one being a neutral site victory.
This will be the fourth trip to the National Quarterfinal for Lenoir-Rhyne and the third in the past five seasons. The Bears improve to 10-9-8 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches and avenged last season's 3-2 double overtime loss to Lander in the NCAA Tournament.
Riley Miller made six stops in goal for LR.
The Bears will travel to Florida Tech for the National Quarterfinal on Saturday. The two met in this round in 2023 with Florida Tech coming away with a 5-4 win.
