The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2023 Women's Tennis Annual Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Nastassia Chamoun was voted the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while fellow Wolf Sofia Cardenas was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year.  In addition, Tusculum head coach Matt Frost was named the Coach of the Year, the SAC office announced today.

Chamoun, a senior from Reunion Island, France, compiled a 19-1 record at No. 2 singles for the Wolves, going 10-1 in conference play. In addition to her stellar singles play, Chamoun is 18-0 overall and 11-0 in the SAC in doubles with partner Zulay Castaneda.

Cardenas, a freshman from Bogota, Colombia, finished the regular season with a 14-3 singles record, going 11-0 in the SAC playing No. 3 and No. 4 singles. She also competed at No. 2 doubles, compiling a record of 6-11 overall, going 4-7 in league play.  

Frost earns his first SAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Pioneers to a share of the SAC Regular Season Title and a 15-5 overall record, going 11-1 in league play, this season. Currently, the Pioneers are ranked No. 29 in the ITA National Rankings.

Joining Chamoun on the All-SAC first team singles squad are Newberry's Zulay Castaneda, Tusculum's Leonie Floeth, Limestone's Anamaria Kiszner-Luca, and Wingate's Elena Gunfaus and Chloe Kosmrlj.

The All-SAC first team doubles honorees are Chamoun and Castaneda of Newberry, Kosmrlj and Suzuka Sambyakugari of Wingate, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Alicia Wahlberg and Lucy Whelan.
