Catawba Women's Tennis Wins First SAC Title in Program History

SUMTER, S.C. - The 38th-ranked and sixth-seed Catawba College women's tennis team made history on Saturday afternoon with its first South Atlantic Conference tournament title in program history, upending 6th-ranked and top-seeded Wingate, 4-1, at the Palmetto Tennis Center.

Wingate took an early 1-0 lead, claiming the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. 

The Catawba Indians then locked in one point at a time, claiming No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to earn the championship crown. Sophomore Ami Miya clinched the championship point with a 6-1, 7-5 win. For her efforts, she was named the Tournament MVP. 

In addition to the tournament title, the Catawba Indians earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Regional Championship.
