Catawba Claims 2025 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship
SUMTER, S.C. – The Catawba Indians are the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Champions after defeating Wingate 4-2 in Friday's final at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Catawba set the tone early, securing the doubles point with dominant performances on courts one and two. Liliana Drukerova and Ami Miya rolled to a 6-1 win at the top spot, while Sofia Antolini and Rin Igarashi delivered a 6-2 victory on court two to clinch the point.
In singles, the Indians extended their lead to 2-0 as Drukerova cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4. Moments later, Miya made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court three.
Wingate pushed back with a 6-2, 6-4 win from Fernanda Castillo at No. 2 to get on the board, and the Bulldogs stayed alive with Chloe Kosmrlj's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
But Catawba closed the door on court five, where Rin Igarashi clinched the championship with a 6-3, 6-2 win to give the Catawba Indians the 4-2 victory.
Rin Igarashi was named the SAC Women's Tennis Tournament Most Valuable Player after going unbeaten in both singles and doubles throughout the tournament.
With the win, Catawba secures the SAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Regional Championship.
