The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the fourth week of the indoor track & field season. Queen's Melanie Welsing earned the track honor and Carson-Newman's Nathalie Schumacher earned the field honor.
Welsing, a senior from Richmond, Ky., recorded another Division II provisional mark in the 60 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.67 in the prelims to advance to the finals at the USC Invite. She then finished seventh with a time of 8.80 This is Welsing's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Schumacher, a junior high jumper from Germany finished second at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Louisville, Ky. with a clearance of 1.55 meters (5'1). This is Schumacher's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
