The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the fifth week of the indoor track & field season. Queen's Fatima Alanis earned the track honor and Carson-Newman's Nathalie Schumacher earned the field honor.
Alanis, a sophomore from Coahuila, Mexico finished 13th and broke the school record in the 3,000 meter elite race at the Camel City Invitational with a time of 9:21.56, which is the second-ranked time in the country currently. Alanis was one of two Division II athletes in the elite event. This is Alanis' second Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Schumacher, a junior high jumper from Germany won her first event championship of the year in the high jump at the Buccaneer Invitational with a jump of 1.61 meters, beating out four Division I competitors. This is Schumacher's second Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
