The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the second week of the outdoor track & field season. Queens' Fatima Alanis earned the track honor and Carson-Newman's Nathlalie Schumacher earned the field honor.
Alanis, a sophomore from Coahuila, Mexico, raced to a 16th place in the 5,000 meter run at the Raleigh Relays; with a time of 16:04.83, currently ranking her first nationally in Division II. This is Alanis' first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Schumacher, a junior multi from Germany won the high jump at the Montreat Invitational with a clearance of 1.59 meters. She set a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 4.78 meters, while finishing in fifth place in the javelin throw with a toss of 31.28 meters. This is Schumacher's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
