WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week Announced for Week Two
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during week two of the 2024 season. Lenoir-Rhyne's Kayli Cleaver was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Wingate's Maddie Hoffman brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Cleaver, a junior from Stanly, N.C., led Lenoir-Rhyne to a perfect 5-0 week and a 9-0 start to the season and finished in double figures in kills in all five matches last week. She started the week off with 29 jills and a .333 hitting percentage in a win over Coker and had two matches with a hitting percentage above .410. She finished the week with 70 kills, 3.89 kills per set and a .337 hitting percentage. She added 18 digs and 11 total blocks defensively.
Hoffman, a junior from Fenton, Mo., piled up 84 digs over the weekend, helping Wingate to an impressive 3-1 trip to Florida for the challenging Outback Invitational. Hoffman averaged 4.94 digs per set, while also handing out 26 assists and adding three aces while notching her first career double-double. Hoffman had 15 digs, five assists and an ace in a tight 3-2 loss at #21 West Florida. She bounced back with a career-high 29 digs in the NWMSU victory, adding seven assists and an ace as the 'Dogs erased a 2-0 deficit. Hoffman piled up 21 digs against Florida Tech, averaging seven digs per set in the sweep over the Panthers. She capped her week with her first double-double, going for 19 digs and 10 assists while adding an ace as Wingate took down Spring Hill.
